Prognostic value of pharmacological stress echocardiography in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease

Abstract: In patients at low-to-moderate risk of cardiac events, pharmacological stress echocardiography with either dobutamine or dipyridamole allows effective and grossly comparable, risk stratification on the basis of the presence, severity and extension of the induced ischemia.

“…All patients underwent pharmacological echocardiography with either dobutamine or dipyridamole, according to recommended standard protocols [10][11][12]. The patients were studied using an incremental regimen of 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 mg?kg body weight -1…”

“…The diagnostic and prognostic value of dipyridamole SE for the detection of coronary artery disease (CAD) has been validated in various studies [30,31]. The diagnostic value of dipyridamole SE performed 3 -6 months after successful PTCA to detect restenosis has been examined in three studies including in a total of 190 patients [4,11,21].…”

“…The data presented and discussed in this review show that SE is a valuable diagnostic method for detecting patients with significant restenosis in the post-PTCA setting. The prognostic relevance of abnormal SE test results in predicting future cardiovascular events has been well defined [30,31,[50][51][52][53][54][55]. Across all the different modalities used to induce cardiovascular stress, the mean sensitivity of SE was 74% (CI 69-79%) and the mean specificity was 87% (CI 84-89%).…”
