Progress in Research on Sustainable Urban Renewal Since 2000: Library and Visual Analyses

Abstract: Urban renewal is an ideal approach to promoting the value of the urban fabric and improving the sustainability of the urban environment. This study, which shows the continuity of research on sustainable urban renewal, aimed to identify sustainable urban renewal literature based on a library analysis of scientific research since 2000. A total of 3971 scientific papers from the SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) and SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index) databases were reviewed to examine how research concern… Show more

“…Then, Harzing's Publish or Perish is used for citation metrics and analysis. Finally, the visual analysis of the network was carried out using the VOS viewer software (version 1.6.16) as a tool that develops the library's data to obtain maps based on clusters which allow presenting the collaborative relationship depending on the number of documents [ [32] , [33] , [34] ]. Once research interest is emphasized, various actions can be taken to analyze the collaborative research network, the performance of researchers, and the direction of future research areas related to brownfield remediation, planning, and sustainable brownfield redevelopment.…”

“…That is to say, we used a web of science, the Scopus databases, as analytical tools based on collaboration between authors and publications to measure and compare researchers' results across institutions and countries [30] [31]. Then, Harzing's Publish or Perish is used for citation metrics and analysis, and finally the visual analysis of the network was carried out using the VOS viewer software (version 1.6.16) as a tool that develops the data of the library to obtain maps based on clusters which allow presenting the collaborative relationship depending on the number of documents [32][33] [34]. “…In this study, “brownfields" are defined as sites known or potentially contaminated due to human activities, requiring reuse based on site-specific risk assessments and remediation for intended purposes. In terms of brownfield regeneration methods, these can be primarily categorized as follows: environmental investigation and assessment, remediation of pollutants, land redevelopment and reuse, ecological restoration and greening, sustainable management and planning, and sustainable management and planning [ [9] , [10] , [11] , [12] ].…”
