Progress of Single-Crystal Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese Cathode Research

Abstract: The booming electric vehicle industry continues to place higher requirements on power batteries related to economic-cost, power density and safety. The positive electrode materials play an important role in the energy storage performance of the battery. The nickel-rich NCM (LiNixCoyMnzO2 with x + y + z = 1) materials have received increasing attention due to their high energy density, which can satisfy the demand of commercial-grade power batteries. Prominently, single-crystal nickel-rich electrodes with s uni… Show more

“…Much less is known on other essential aspects of the NMC811 electrochemical behavior, such as first cycle Coulombic efficiency, rate capability and capacity retention. Due to natural space and time limitations, only a little fraction of the reported data is usually analyzed and summarized in review articles that might be sufficient for picking up qualitative trends, but does not allow for reliable quantitative estimates [ [5] , [6] , [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] , [11] ]. Particularly, quantitative correlations between various parameters (such as discharge capacity vs voltage range or capacity retention vs C-rate) are lacking.…”
