Project Cost Estimation of National Road in Preliminary Feasibility Stage Using BIM/GIS Platform

Abstract: A preliminary feasibility study evaluates various aspects of a project such as environmental assessment, field study, technological validity, and economic feasibility. Among them, economic feasibility is the most important factor to use in selecting a road route in Korea. A proper preliminary feasibility study considers all costs incurred in the life cycle of the project, including construction costs, land acquisition costs, collateral expenses, and operation and maintenance costs. However, only construction c… Show more

“…A GIS/BIM platform has been used for a preliminary feasibility study to estimate the cost of building a national road [108]. Park, Kang, Lee and Seo [108] developed a system that employs BIM and GIS systems with three modules that estimate construction cost, land acquisition cost and operations and maintenance cost, separately, in order to assist reasonable decision making for the optimized route selection.…”

“…Forgues, Iordanova, Valdivesio, and Staub-French (2012) investigated and discussed the influence of adoption of BIM-based cost estimating software in the construction company on the process of cost estimation in terms of practices and workflows. The combined use of BIM and geospatial information system (GIS) has been explored in the context of roadworks cost estimation by Park, Kang, Lee, and Seo (2014). Zima (2017) discussed the influence of the detail level of information stored in a BIM model on the bill of quantities and cost estimates accuracy.…”

“…Our study interest are France and Luxembourg. Luxembourg is developing a national BIM strategy and BIM execution plan [5], and has a strong initiative and support at the governmental level, where IT-barometer survey shows that firms were not very familiar with BIM (2014), the highest awareness among architects [6].…”
