Projector with realistic detector scatter modelling for PET list-mode reconstruction

Abstract: In list-mode PET reconstruction the accuracy of the projector model plays a key role in the reconstructed image quality. This projector must compute on-the-f1y the contribution of each voxel from the field-of-view for a given line-of-response, including geometric and detector scattering effects. Recently proposed projectors consider the use of a Gaussian model to take into account detector geometric effects without explicitly modeling detector scatter. In this study, we propose a new projector based on the int… Show more

“…The third projector considered in this work is the IRIS projector [6]. This projector is based on a multiple-lines approach and is capable of rendering a VOR that naturally varies inside the field-of-view and accurately models the detector geometry and the crystal scatter effects.…”

“…As proposed in [5], the detector PSF can be modeled with asymmetrical Gaussian functions, although assuming a Gaussian shape may be associated with an approximation. The projector proposed in [6] is based on a complete modeling of the intrinsic detector response function (IDRF) and a multiple-lines approach called iterative random IDRF sampling (IRIS). It allows a complete A.…”
