Promising effects of gingerol against toxins: A review article

Abstract: Ginger is a medicinal and valuable culinary plant. Gingerols, as an active constituent in the fresh ginger rhizomes of Zingiber officinale, exhibit several promising pharmacological properties. This comprehensive literature review was performed to assess gingerol's protective and therapeutic efficacy against the various chemical, natural, and radiational stimuli. Another objective of this study was to investigate the mechanism of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic properties of gingerol. It shou… Show more

“…The ELISA assay evaluated the IL-1 β , IL-6, TNF- α , and PGE2 levels as inflammatory mediators, which were carried out in accordance with the manufacturers' protocol, IBL company [ 6 , 7 , 24 , 26 , 28 ], USA. In summary, 1.5 × 10 6 cells were cultured in a 6-well plate overnight, and they were treated according to the experimental grouping section.…”

“…The nitrite oxide metabolite levels were measured based on the measurement of nitrite (NO −2 ) as the stable and the final NO product by the Griess method described elsewhere [ 30 ]. The NO levels were assessed in the supernatant at 540 nm by using the standard curve of different nitrite concentrations [ 6 , 7 , 24 , 26 28 ].…”

“…(6)-gingerol has also been proven to impede hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis associated with chemically-induced inflammation and cell proliferation via the modulation of Nrf2 signaling ( Sun et al, 2021 ). Gingerol elicits its protective activity through different mechanisms and cell signaling pathways, of which, MAPK, NF-κB, Wnt/β-catenin, Nrf2/ARE, TGF-β1/Smad3, and ERK/CREB are prominent ( Yahyazadeh et al, 2021 ).…”
