Promising Strategies of Colloidal Drug Delivery-Based Approaches in Psoriasis Management

Abstract: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder that moderately affects social and interpersonal relationships. Conventional treatments for psoriasis have certain problems, such as poor drug penetration through the skin, hyper-pigmentation, and a burning sensation on normal and diseased skin. Colloidal drug delivery systems overcome the pitfalls of conventional approaches for psoriasis therapeutics and have improved patient safety parameters, compliance, and superior effectiveness. They also entail red… Show more

“…The use of multiple emulsions is somewhat limited as they can be complex to formulate and physically unstable. However, they can present an attractive option where incompatible drugs are required to be administered from the same vehicle, and to prolong drug release from the vehicle without increasing trans-dermal permeation (Laugel et al, 1998;Raynal et al, 1993;Singh et al, 2021).…”

“…AMPs comprise LL37, S100 proteins, and β-defensins. As a result, pro-inflammatory mediators such as interleukins (ILs), interferons (IFNs), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) are released and activate TH-1 and TH-7 T-lymphocytes, which ultimately triggers an adaptive immune response and keratinocytes proliferation in the epidermis [ 60 , 61 ].…”

“…The matrix based nanospheres, shell based nano capsules highly branched dendrimers, and the gel emulsifiers are different form PNPs. Enhanced circulation in the body, longer adherence, reduced side effects, non-allergic formulations, biocompatibility, bioavailabilty and biodegradability properties makes them suitable for topical application [53][54][55] .…”
