Promoting effects of Y doping and FeOOH loading for efficient photoelectrochemical activity on BiVO4 electrodes

Abstract: Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) has been widely applied as photoelectrode material, while its insufficient charge separation and utilization efficiency have been the major obstacle in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation. Herein, a...

“…CNTs should be loaded in the composite in the most optimal manner possible. It is crucial to determine the right balance between the amount of CNTs and BiVO 4 to maximize photothermal performance and achieve synergistic effects [35,36]. Insufficient interaction between CNTs can result in insufficient charge transfer, whereas excessive CNT concentration could result in aggregation and decreased light absorption.…”

“…Among them, Nickel–iron (oxy) hydroxides(NiFeOOH) is considered as one of the most active cocatalysts for PEC water splitting, due to its nanostructure suitable for PEC, efficient light absorption, rapid charge transfer, and low overpotential . Several investigations have concentrated on the interface chemical modification of NiFeOOH electrocatalysts with high-performance semiconductor photoanodes (e.g., α-Fe 2 O 3 , BiVO 4 , WO 3 , , and n-Si) to enhance the efficiency of photoelectrocatalytic water oxidation reactions. The research literature provides ample evidence that bimetallic transition metal-based hydroxides (e.g., NiFeOOH and CoAlOOH) exhibit enhanced oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity compared to their monometallic analogues, owing to the modulation of band edge positions and adsorption energies .…”
