Promoting Resilience in Hong Kong School Children: A Critical Reflection

Abstract: This paper reviews work on resilience education in HongKong schools. The concept of resilience as defined in the Western literature is presented first, followed by a discussion of resilience from the Chinese perspective. The need for promoting resilience in school children and the effectiveness of the two most commonly used resilience-based programmes for current school children, Positive Adolescent Training through Holistic Social Programs and Healthy Promoting Schools, are reviewed.
