This research provides an overview of the application of the Project-based Learning (PjBL) model in intracurricular learning in forming student competencies. The objectives of this research are: (1) Describe the implementation of the PjBL model in intracurricular learning which can improve student competence in a Muhammadiyah junior high school in East Java, (2) Describe the competency achieved by students by implementing the PjBL model in intracurricular learning in a school Muhammadiyah junior high school in East Java, (3) Describe the school's obstacles and solutions in implementing the PjBL model in intracurricular learning at a Muhammadiyah junior high school in East Java. The research method used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The instruments in this research include in-depth interviews, observation and documentation studies. This research provides important information regarding the successful implementation of PjBL. All teaching modules have mentioned the implementation of PjBL, but only one teaching module clearly describes the PjBL-based learning steps. The average implementation of the PjBL model is 63% (sufficient category). Most students responded very well to the learning process carried out by the teacher. The range of student scores is 70 to 90. There are several problems and solutions taken by the school in an effort to make the implementation of PjBL successful. The research findings can be an illustration of examples or variations of good practice in implementing the PjBL model in intracurricular learning in implementing the independent curriculum in an effort to build student competency.

In the world of education, there are many methods that can be used in the learning process. In the 21st century, the project based learning method is often used because it is in accordance with the current curriculum. This research aims to describe EFL students' perspectives toward project-based learning in vocational high school. Researchers used a mixed method by collecting data using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The subjects of this research were 59 students of SMK PGRI 3 Malang from the animation and design, communication and visual department. The research results revealed that more than 71% of students gave positive responses to this method which was considered effective for increasing understanding, activeness, motivation and speaking ability in vocational high school English classes. Students feel they can increase understanding by discussing with friends when working on projects. Apart from that, during discussions students feel more active in exchanging knowledge with each other in the group. Students also feel that project-based learning makes work easier and more fun because they are done together. In addition, students feel that their speaking skills have improved after making several presentations, and they are more confident in speaking in front of the class. Therefore, project-based learning is considered to be an appropriate method for learning English in vocational high schools. This research is expected to provide new knowledge for readers regarding EFL students' perspectives toward project-based learning in vocational high school. This is so that the implementation of project-based learning in the future can be more optimal than before.

Soft skills of independent learning and critical thinking are necessary in the 21st century. Independent learning trains students to have a responsible attitude when performing assigned tasks by using ideas, the innovation and creativity that students have to complete assigned tasks and hopefully it will continue to be integrated into adulthood. At the same time, critical thinking skills are needed to analyze existing knowledge and resources to solve problems that students encounter in daily life. The project-based learning (PBL) model supports students to actively participate in learning activities and project creation processes, so that learning materials become easier to understand and skills can be developed. skills such as independent learning and critical thinking. Analyze the impact of the PBL model on independent learning skills. Quantitative method with MANOVA (Multivariate Analysis of Variance) analysis was used in this study. This study uses a control class of 19 students and an experimental class of 10 students. The results show that applying the PBL model has a significant impact on critical thinking skills and learning independence, as evidenced by the significance level of 0.000 < 0.05 and 0.011 < 0.05. The learning process by giving projects to fifth grade elementary students provides an opportunity to develop basic concepts of the material available to them. During the project implementation process, many problems will certainly arise that encourage students to think critically when solving problems. Independent learning occurs before analysis, where students must gather multiple references to find and support their hypotheses to come up with more effective and efficient solutions.
