Promotion of mental health in young adults via mobile phone app: study protocol of the ECoWeB (emotional competence for well-being in Young adults) cohort multiple randomised trials

Abstract: Background Promoting well-being and preventing poor mental health in young people is a major global priority. Building emotional competence (EC) skills via a mobile app may be an effective, scalable and acceptable way to do this. “…This study forms a part of a larger validation study in which shortened versions of assessment instruments were investigated for usage in four European countries (UK, Germany, Spain, and Belgium) and in four different languages (English, German, Spanish, and Dutch) within the Horizon2020 project “Assessing and Enhancing Emotional Competence for Well-Being (ECoWeB) in the Young: A principled, evidence-based, mobile-health approach to prevent mental disorders and promote mental well-being” ( Newbold et al, 2020 ; Supplementary Material Point 2 ). Therefore also measurement invariance (MI) is investigated.…”

“…Whilst RMT data features certainly appear relevant to depression, there is less evidence for the clinical utility of this in improving depression outcomes in young people either through objective screening, symptom management, relapse-prevention, or just-in-time adaptive interventions. Of the 28 records pertaining to clinical utility only 10 were published studies, with the remaining 18 being registries and/or protocols of clinical trials yet to be completed [78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96] .…”

“…Por otro lado, en la búsqueda bibliográfica realizada, fueron identificados algunos protocolos de intervención a través de aplicaciones móviles que están siendo puestos a prueba actualmente en población española. Sería interesante seguir con detalle la evolución de estas investigaciones para conocer su evolución en su proceso de validación clínica (Ferré-Grau et al, 2019;Newbold et al, 2020).…”
