Propagation and Characterization of Novel Graded and Linearly Chirped Type's of Refractive Index Profile Symmetric Planar Slab Waveguide by Numerical Means

Abstract: Abstract-We characterize the alpha power and chirped types of refractive index profile planar slab waveguide in terms of TE/TM mode study, waveguide dispersion study, mode profile properties, power confinement factor and universal b-V graph. Our own developed finite element method has been efficiently applied to analyze the symmetric planar slab waveguide having a complicated refractive index profile. There is a requirement for a high accuracy of numerical technique to analyze the arbitrary refractive index wa… Show more

“…Fig. 1, shows the schematic of the α-power refractive index profiles given by [6], Where, 2a is a full core width, 1 is the core refractive index, is the substrate refractive index and α-parameter controls the profile shape. The step-index slab waveguide can be analyzed by setting α = ∞ in eq.…”

“…Recently S. A. Taya studied the P-polarized surface waves and slab waveguide with air core layer with left-handed material for sensing applications [21][22][23][24][25][26][27] II. COMPUTATION OF POWER CONFINEMENT FACTOR FOR -POWER TYPE REFRACTIVE INDEX PROFILE When an eigenvalue β of matrix C is obtained as detailed mathematical procedure is given in our recently published papers [6,7], the corresponding eigenvector R 0 , R 1 , … … … R N is calculated by the matrix operation. However, the relative value of R i (i = 1 − N) with respect to R 0 (≠ 0) has to obtain while R 0 is still unknown.…”
