Propagation and stability of relaxation modes and transition regions in the Landau-Ginzburg model with dissipation

Abstract: Exact traveling-wave solutions of the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation with dissipation are found. The solutions are discussed in the context of propagating nonlinear mechanical waves as well as domain walls (solutions interpolating between two local minima in the potential) and relaxation modes (solutions interpolating between a local minimum and a local maximum in the potential) in systems undergoing second-order phase transitions. Using the Lyapunov method the stability of traveling waves is analyzed.Explici… Show more

“…The behaviour of transition regions in one-dimensional multistable continuous media is described by the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation with dissipation (NKGD) [13] µφ tt + γφ t − Dφ xx + P (φ) = 0, (2.5) where P (φ) is a function of the field φ. Generally, the parameters of the model are some functions of the medium characters like temperature, viscosity and so on; however, such a system has not been studied with constant parameters yet.…”

“…These equations can be used to describe the particle dynamics in quantum field theory. Some of the other examples of the NKG applications include, discrete gap breathers in a diatomic chain [9], dichotomous collective proton dynamics in ice [10], propagation and stability of relaxation modes in the Landau-Ginzburg model with dissipation [11] and pion form factor [12]. Recently, Wazwaz has proposed several localized solutions for the NKG equations using "Tanh" method [13].…”
