Properties and performance of cotton seed oil–diesel blends as a fuel for compression ignition engines

Abstract: This paper presents the evaluation of properties of straight vegetable cotton seed oil (CSO) and its blends with diesel fuel in various proportions to evaluate the performance and emission characteristics of a single cylinder compression ignition (CI) engine at constant speed of 1500rev∕min. Diesel and CSO oil fuel blends (10%, 30%, 50%, and 70%) were used to conduct engine performance and smoke emission tests at varying loads of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% of full load in addition to their straight CSO a… Show more

“…The cetane number of biodiesel is higher than that of pure diesel due to its longer fatty acid carbon chains and the presence of saturation in molecules [70,89,90]. Generally, the higher the chain length, the higher the cetane number value [91]. The higher value in cetane number is considered to be a significant advantage in terms of engine performance and emissions, allowing biodiesel-fuelled engines to run more smoothly and with less noise [92].…”

“…The CSO10D90 mix fuel recorded a 3.7 % decline in BSFC from the trial tests, a 1.7 % expansion in BTE, a 6.7 % expansion in ME, and a 21.7 % decrease in smoke emanations contrasted and conventional diesel motors. The creator presumed that CSO10D90 could be utilized promptly in CI motors with no noteworthy motor adjustments as it demonstrated great effectiveness and diminished emanations contrasted with every single other fuel tried for the whole motor activity contrasted with diesel [14].…”
