Properties of Poly-γ-Glutamic Acid Producing-Bacillus Species Isolated From Ogi Liquor and Lemon-Ogi Liquor

Abstract: Poly-γ-glutamic acid (γPGA) is a natural and promising biopolymer synthesized by Bacillus spp. during fermentation. This study isolated Bacillus spp. from ogi steep liquor (OSL) and lemon- ogi steep liquor (LOSL) using standard methods and determined the γPGA-producing ability. The antimicrobial and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activities of γPGA polymer were evaluated and isolates were sequenced. Four… Show more

“…γ-PGA itself has bioactive properties: it stimulates and improves immune activity potentially by modulating gut microbiota and also suppresses pathogen growth [ 50 ]. In vivo and in vitro studies have demonstrated that γ-PGA acts as an enhancer of glucose tolerance in animal feeding studies and 3T3-L1 cell culture studies [ 51 , 52 ].…”

“…In this study, we entrapped fenofibrate in ANs and modified the surfaces of F/ANs with anti-CD3e f(ab’)2 antibody fragments. The nanoparticle is based on the amphiphilic derivative of poly (γ-glutamic acid) which is natural biopolymer produced from Bacillus species [ 30 ]. Due to the biocompatibility and biodegradability, poly (γ-glutamic acid)-based biomaterials have been studied for delivery systems of various active substances.…”

“…γ–PGA and its derivatives have broad applications and they are widely used in the food industry as a food supplement for the promotion of adsorption of bioavailable minerals such as Ca 2+ [ 31 ], in medicine as a drug carrier [ 32 ], tissue engineering [ 33 ], bioremediation [ 34 ] and other purposes such as moisturizer [ 35 ] , biocontrol agent [ 36 ], biodegradable plastic [ 3 ], antibacterial agent [ 9 ] and many more. Various substrates such as cane molasses, glucose, etc.…”
