Prophylaxis and management of perioperative hemorrhage in retropubic radical prostatectomy

Abstract: Retropubic radical prostatectomy (RRP) has commonly been performed for localized prostate cancer. In the past decade, with the development of laparoscopic and robotic techniques, laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) or robotic-assisted LRP has been widely used due to its less invasive nature along with its shorter recovery, reduced blood loss, and improved visualization of the operative region compared to open techniques. Severe hemorrhage following prostatectomy is relatively rare (0.5% to 1.6%), but it i… Show more

“…The blood supply system of five main arteries for bladder and prostate were isolated and ligated as soon as possible: the inferior bladder artery, the superior bladder artery, the bladder branch of obturator artery and the bladder branch of inferior gluteal artery from the anterior trunk of internal iliac artery. The venous system in or adjacent to the perivesical ligament and the DVC of penis need to be reliably ligated [ 35 ]. In particular, DVC mainly contains the superficial branch, deep branch and communicating branch of the dorsal deep vein of the penis, as well as a small amount of arterioles.…”
