PROPIEDADES FÍSICO-MECÁNICAS DE LA FIBRA DE Agave lechuguilla Torr. DE CINCO PROCEDENCIAS BAJO PLANTACIONES

Abstract

RESUMENLa lechuguilla (Agave lechuguilla) es una especie de las zonas áridas y semiáridas de México, donde ocupa una superficie aproximada de 20 millones de hectáreas, en los estados de Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas y Zacatecas. Su fibra se utiliza en diversos productos de la industria cepillera. La producción de este material en poblaciones naturales se ha reducido por la falta de mano de obra, la sobreexplotación del recurso y las condiciones climáticas irregulares que alargan su turno técnico. Una opción para incrementarla son las plantaciones comerciales. El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar el efecto de plantación con riego y fertilización de cinco procedencias de lechuguilla en las propiedades físicas y mecánicas de la fibra. En estas plantas el diámetro mayor es un criterio de medición de interés que corresponde a la base del cogollo, y disminuye gradualmente hasta la punta. Los resultados indican que las localidades sobresalientes en este sentido son el ejido Marte y el ejido Independencia, municipio Jaumave con 0. 45 y 0. 39 mm, respectivamente. La densi dad linear varía de 10. 7 4 (eji do Marte) a 5. 97 Decitex. En resistencia a la tensión, la carga máxima que soportaron las procedencias evaluadas en la plantación fue de 19. 67 y 22. 84 Newton. La prueba de elongación máxima tuvo un intervalo de 7. 97 a 12. 46%. Se concluye que las propiedades físico-mecánicas de la fibra de la lechuguilla no se alteran al someterla a cultivo.Palabras clave: Agave lechuguilla Torr., fertilización, fibras, plantaciones, propiedades físico-mecánicas, riego. ABSTRACTLechuguilla (Agave lechuguilla) is a species of arid and semiarid regions of Mexico, where it covers an approximate area of 20 million hectares in the states of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, Durango, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas. Its fiber is used in various products of the brush industry. The production of this material in natural populations has been reduced by the lack of labor, the over-exploitation of the resource and irregular weather conditions which extend the technical turn. An option to increase it are commercial plantations. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of planting with irrigation and fertilization of five provenances of Lechuguilla upon the physical and mechanical properties of its fiber. In these plants, the major diameter is a measurement criterion of interest corresponding to the heart base, and tapering towards the tip. Results indicate that the outstanding localities in this regard are the Ejido Marte and Ejido Independencia, Jaumave with 0.45 and 0.39 mm, respectively. Linear density varies from 10.7 4 (Ejido Marte) to 5.97 decitex. In tensile strength, maximum load withstood the sources evaluated in the plantation was 19. 67 and 22. 84 Newton. Maximum elongation testing had a range of 7.97 to 12.46%. It was concluded that the physical-mechanical properties of the fiber of Lechuguilla not altered when plants are subjected to cultivation.
