Propiedades psicométricas del PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionnaire) en centros de atención primaria de Chile

Abstract: Background: Simple and brief questionnaires with adequate psychometric properties are useful for the early detection of depressive disorders. Aim: To analyze the psychometric behavior of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) in Chile. Material and Methods: Data were collected from 1,738 adult patients, consulting in primary health care centers. The values obtained in the PHQ-9 were compared with those of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI). Results: The mean score of PHQ-9 was 4.85 ± 5.5… Show more

“…In this study, the psychometric properties of the PHQ-9 and their usefulness as a depressive disorder screening instrument are analyzed in a sample of older Chilean adults. Although this is not the only study of the functioning of the PHQ-9 that has been organized in Chile (23,24), to our knowledge, it is the first study targeted at the older adult population, using a large sample of older adults who attend PHC centers. In addition, it has the advantage of having used the CIDI as a gold standard, which is an instrument widely applied in epidemiological studies due to its rigorous use of diagnostic criteria for established mental disorders.…”

“…Concerning the structural validity of the PHQ-9, there is evidence corroborating the unidimensional structure of the scale (11,(24)(25)(26)(27)(28)(29)(30). However, some evidence has been found supporting a two-dimensional solution (16,18,19,31).…”

“…The psychometric properties of the measure are good, notable for test-retest reliability of 0.84 and internal consistency of 0.89 [25]. The Spanish version of this measure, which has comparable psychometric properties (Cronbach α = .89) with the original version, was used in the present study [26]. The optimal cut-off score for diagnosing depression with the Spanish version of this measure has been proposed to be 12 [27].…”

“…Moreover, McDonald's omega coefficient came between 0.911 and 0.940, which indicates that all omega values are higher than the threshold criterion, i.e. 0.70 (Meneses et al, 2019;Saldivia et al, 2019). Hence, the research instrument is characterized by validity and reliability.…”
