Propofol Inhibits Lung Cancer A549 Cell Growth and Epithelial‐Mesenchymal Transition Process by Upregulation of MicroRNA-1284

Abstract: Propofol has been widely used in lung cancer resections. Some studies have demonstrated that the effects of propofol might be mediated by microRNAs (miRNAs). This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of propofol on lung cancer cells by regulation of miR-1284. A549 cells were treated with different concentrations of propofol, while transfected with miR-1284 inhibitor, si-FOXM1 and their negative controls. Cell viability, migration, invasion, the expression of miR-1284, FOXM1 and epithelial mese… Show more

“…In fact, several previous studies have implicated the functions of propofol on miRNA expression. For example, miR‐372, miR‐195, miR‐1284, miR‐206, miR‐9 and miR‐21 were all stated to be affected by propofol to control cell growth, migration and invasion . Additionally, here ADAM8 was identified to directly target to miR‐328.…”

[14][15][16][17][18][19] Additionally, here ADAM8 was identified to directly target to miR-328. Our results implicate that propofol exerts an inhibitory effect on pancreatic cancer cell growth, migration and invasion by enhancing miR-328 which targets ADAM8.…”

“…It is well known that epigenetic alterations or genetic modulation of epigenetic regulators plays important roles in carcinogenesis . Many studies show that the anticancer effect of propofol is potentially due to regulation of the epigenetic pathway in cancer …”

“…Liu et al. proved that propofol inhibited lung cancer cell growth and EMT through upregulation of miR‐1284 . miR‐218 acted as a tumor suppressor in many cancers, and propofol could upregulate miR‐218 expression.…”
