Prospective study of prevalence of overactive bladder symptoms and child‐bearing in women of reproductive age

Abstract: Nulliparous women presented fewer OAB symptoms than primiparous women. Multiparous women presented more symptoms than the other two groups. There were no significant differences between cesarean and vaginal delivery, but the scores of women who had vaginal delivery were higher than those who had cesareans. Both types of delivery were related to higher ICIQ-OAB scores (more severe symptoms) than those of nulliparous women.

“…In this study, OAB symptoms were more likely to be seen among multiparous women compared to primiparous women, who were again more likely to have the symptoms compared to nulliparous ones. Although these symptoms are more frequently seen in the VD group than in the CD group, it did not reach statistical significance [47].…”

“…Overactive bladder symptoms were more likely to be seen among multiparous women as compared to primiparous women. Symptoms of overactive bladder are more frequently seen in women having delivered vaginally than in the group of women having delivered by cesarean section, but the diff erence did not reach statistical significance 47 . Vacuum and forceps assisted delivery increases the risk of overactive bladder development 48 .…”

“…Th e probability for the onset of overactive bladder syndrome does not diff er signifi cantly between women having delivered vaginally and by cesarean section 46 . Palma et al state that pregnancy per se rather than the mode of delivery is a risk factor for development of overactive bladder 47 . Overactive bladder symptoms were more likely to be seen among multiparous women as compared to primiparous women.…”
