Prospects of electricity infrastructure in East Asia

Abstract: Major principles, required conditions, objectives and stages of creating common electric power space (CEPS) in East Asia (EA) are determined. Effects of interconnecting electric power systems (EPSs) with different seasonal load maxima are considered. Prospective electricity demand and free volumes of electric power markets in EA countries are estimated. Export power projects in Siberia and Russian Far East (RFE) are analyzed.

“…Pairs of scenarios including Base case one and scenario of NEA ISPG formation were presented for assumed levels of CO2 tax, including zero CO2 emission tax, and level of tax in the amount of USD 60 per ton of carbon dioxide emission accordingly. These scenarios were optimised by using mathematical model for expansion and dispatching of electric power systems ORIRES [5,9].…”

“…At the same time, a tax on CO2 emissions was used as a mechanism for stimulating renewable energy sources expansion. The computational tool for the study was a specially improved optimization model of expansion and economic dispatching of electric power systems (EPSs) named ORIRES [5].…”

“…As is shown in [14][15][16], currently the possibilities of hydropower construction in Russia and in its eastern regions have changed significantly due to a decreasing need for new sources of electricity, limited investment opportunities for the state and private companies, difficulties in economic development and development of natural resources of new territories, rise in the cost of HPP projects due to relocation of construction sites to remote, poorly developed territories, etc.…”
