CASE REPORT: We report a case of prostatic tuberculosis in a young, healthy and immunocompetent patient with unremarkable findings from intravenous urographic examination. Computed tomography showed an abscess in the prostate and Mycobacterium tuberculosis was isolated in a urine culture. Treatment with isoniazid, rifampin and p… Show more

“…Genitourinary tuberculosis accounts for 5-10% of extrapulmonary cases in developed countries and 15-20% of cases in developing countries ( 5 ). Nevertheless, isolated prostate tuberculosis is uncommon, particularly in immunocompetent patients, and most cases are detected incidentally.…”

“…Literature review of prostatic TB cases shows that prostatic abscess formation is exceedingly rare. Worldwide, approximately 21 such cases have been reported in the literature with most case reports from India and Spain and only 5 such cases from United States ( Table 1 ) [1] , [3] , [4] , [7] , [8] , [16] , [17] , [19] , [23] , [25] , [26] , [27] .…”

“…In the urethra, it generally causes fistula and/or stricture that require surgical procedures [129,130]. Many reports describe granulomatous prostatitis [131][132][133], resulting from the formation of granulomas surrounding areas of caseous necrosis, prostatic calcifications or abscesses [129,131,132,[134][135][136]. Colonization of the seminal vesicles is rarely found but also results in enlargement, calcifications or abscesses [132,136].…”
