Protecting Avocado Seedlings from Grafting Failure During Propagation in Nursery Using Biological and Chemical Control

Abstract: During propagation of avocado by grafting in 2019 and 2020, the maximum % grafting failure (GF) of avocado seedlings was recorded on cv. Hass and cv. Fuerte, followed by cv. Benkerton and cv. Reed. While cv. Etinger was the less susceptible one. Lasiodiplodia theobromae was the most frequently isolated from graft failure seedlings in all avocado cultivars, followed by Fusarium moniliforme. While Alternaria alternata recorded the lowest frequency. The highest percentage of grafting failure and death of scions w… Show more

“…All the tested treatments as anti-failure agents increased peroxidase activity of the tested orange variety, also Tallon and Olaya (2012) mentioned that the transfer of in vitro shoots to rooting media, containing different concentrations of indole butyric acid (IBA) and indole acetic acid (IAA), resulted in regeneration of complete plantlets of trees of a lemon, Sour orange, and 'Cleopatra' mandarin citrus rootstocks. These results are similar to those reported by Sharma(2002) and Monir et al (2021) they stated that the changes in activities of defense related enzymes as a result of treating avocado scions with some fungicides or biofungicides, all tested treatments such as fungicides or biocides increased peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activities in comparison with control treatment in the two tested cultivars.…”

“…The highest values of production of peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activities in the two tested avocado cultivars Hass and Fuerte were observed after dipping the scions in Amistar Top and Bellis, followed by Kocide (2000) and Serenade ASO (B. subtilis QST713). While the lowest values of peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activities were recorded after dipping the scions in Star copper and Bio Zeid (Trichoderma album) (Monir et al, 2021).…”

“…To determine the effect of the tested commercial products with the concentrations showed in Table (1) on the defense enzyme activities and total phenolic content in three date palm seedlings Barhey, Majdol and Zaghloul cvs. two years old, samples of leaves were taken 24 hours after soil drench of the tested compounds to determine total phenolic content (TPC) and polyphenoloxidase (PPO) activity (Monir et al, 2021).…”

“…In addition, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activities upregulated in two cultivars of avocado; Hass and Fuerte after dipping the scions in Amistar Top and or Bellis. However, after dipping the scions in Star copper or Bio Zeid, the lowest values were noted (Monir et al, 2021). Other studies were performed on some cultivars of date palm trees treated with fungicides; Uniform and/or Tshgarin documented that the highest values of total phenol in Barhey cv.…”

“…Each sample was comprised from three replicates of at least six distinct mango trees and immediately put in liquid nitrogen to measure the total phenolic content, chitinase (CHT), peroxidase (PO), and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities. (Monir et al, 2021;Shehata and Hassan 2023).…”
