Protection Effect of Zhen‐Wu‐Tang on Adriamycin‐Induced Nephrotic Syndrome via Inhibiting Oxidative Lesions and Inflammation Damage

Abstract: Zhen-wu-tang (ZWT), a well-known formula in China, is widely used to treat chronic kidney diseases. However, very little information on ZWT's mechanism of action is currently available. In this study, we investigated the possible protective role and underlying mechanism of ZWT on nephrotic syndrome (NS) induced by Adriamycin (intravenous injection, 6.0 mg/kg) in rats using biochemical and histopathological approaches. ZWT decreased urine protein excretion and the serum levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride… Show more

“…In our study, massive proteinuria, pathological damage in renal tissue, podocyte foot process effacement, and downregulation of nephrin were observed in rats with adriamycin-induced nephropathy. These results were consistent with those of previously published reports [ 26 , 27 ]. In earlier studies, liver toxicity, nephrotoxicity, and infertility were considered the major side effects of the pharmacological constituents of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F [ 28 , 29 ].…”

“…On day 28, all animals were euthanatized to collect their blood and obtain renal tissue samples, as our previously described (Liang et al, ). Five milliliters of blood from the abdominal aorta was collected after anesthetization, and then centrifuged at 3,500 rpm at 4°C for 15 min to obtain the serum for renal function analysis.…”
