“…The results suggest that carnosine may increase nerve transmission and reduce lipid peroxidation. 53 levels of antioxidants (GSH-Px and total antioxidant capacity) in those with osteoporosis in comparison with those without this condition. 37 Recently, antioxidant activity and the levels of lipid peroxidation have been examined in the elderly and adults resident in both rural and urban areas.…”

“…24 However, in this study, we found that carnosine applied 10 min before OGD did not provide any beneficial effect on mast cell degranulation, histamine and LDH release (data not shown), whereas carnosine applied 18 h before OGD markedly attenuated ischemic injury of mast cells. So the protective effect of carnosine on mast cell injury induced by OGD is probably due to its other biological roles, such as regulating transcription and expression of special proteins, 25 resisting reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation 26 and prevention of cytosolic free calcium overload during OGD, 27 but not to interaction with cell receptors, such as histamine receptors expressed on mast cells. However, the actual mechanism of the carnosine action on ischemic injury of mast cells is complex and further studies are needed in the future.…”

“…Carnosine also inhibits the oxidative hydroxylation of deoxyguanosine induced by ascorbic acid and copper ions [Kohen et al, 19881. In experiments with perfused muscle and with muscle extracts, carnosine lessens lipid peroxidation and alleviates muscle fatigue [Whitaker and Louw, 1984;Dupin et al, 1985Dupin et al, , 1987Boldyrev et al, 19881. Copper chelates of carnosine and other histidine-containing peptides possess superoxide dismutase activity [Brigelius et al, 1974;Gulyaeva, 19881. L-Carnosine administered i.p.…”
