Protective Effect and Mechanism of Placenta Extract on Liver

Abstract: The placenta contains multiple biologically active substances, which exert antioxidation, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and delayed aging effects. Its extract can improve hepatic morphology and function: on the one hand, it can reduce liver interstitial collagen deposition, lipogenesis, and inflammatory cell infiltration and improve fibrosis; on the other hand, it can prevent hepatocellular degeneration by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting inflammatory cytokine production, further … Show more

“…Human placenta extracts (HPEs) are obtained by lysing human placental tissues collected at full-term delivery. According to the data obtained from various research studies, HPEs possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic [ 50 ], antioxidant, antiapoptotic [ 51 , 52 ], cytoprotective and radioprotective [ 53 ], and anti-allergic properties and express hormonal activity [ 54 ], as well as stimulate proliferation and regenerative processes [ 55 ]. Based on such studies that showed the multi-potent features of HPEs, and the pathophysiology of tinnitus, as a complex medical condition with no standard treatment, we hypothesized that placenta extract might be able to reverse salicylate-induced changes.…”
