Protective effect of isoflavone enriched soy β ‐conglycinin on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats

Abstract: Research shows that the consumption of soybean foods can reduce the incidence rate of bone fractures in women after menopause. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different complex of soy β‐conglycinin (7S) and isoflavones (7S‐ISO) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. All treatments were administrated intragastrically to the groups every afternoon for 3 months. The treatments were administrated at 1 mL·(100 g)−1, the animals were given 50 mg·kg−1·d−1 ISO, and the concentration of protein… Show more

“…Blood sample was collected from the retro-orbital vein and centrifuged at 1000× g for 15 min at 4 • C to separate serum, and all serum samples were kept at −80 • C. The femurs were isolated as quickly as possible, and tissue was rinsed with phosphate buffer solution (PBS) and fixed in 4% neutral formaldehyde (pH 7.0) for further experiments. Based on previous studies, 50 mg/kg OFE was selected as the medium dose [45][46][47][48], with a half-dose of the medium dose (25 mg/kg) and a 1.5-fold increase in the high dose (75 mg/kg) [49]. And, based on the human dose of alendronate of 10 mg/day, a dose of 1 mg/kg/day was selected for rats.…”

“…SPI, which act as transporters of bioactive ingredients, are well recognized worldwide for its nutritional and functional value 14 . Several studies have suggested that soy protein consumption can lower blood lipid levels, decrease type 2 diabetes occurrence, and increase bone density 15 . Moreover, soy proteins inhibit density reduction in the femur bones of an osteoporotic rat model 16 .…”

“…Moreover, soy proteins inhibit density reduction in the femur bones of an osteoporotic rat model 16 . SPI is composed almost exclusively of two major proteins, namely β-conglycinin and glycinin 17 , which have been shown to have anti-osteoporotic effects in an ovariectomized animal model 15 . Emerging research has demonstrated better immune-boosting effects of fermented soy protein isolates (F-SPI) by functional bacteria than those of SPI alone 18 .…”
