Protective effects of a combination of quercetin and vitamin E against cyclosporine A‐induced oxidative stress and hepatotoxicity in rats

Abstract: Our data demonstrates that E + Q plays a protective role against the imbalance elicited by CsA between the production of free radicals and antioxidant defence systems, and suggests that a combination of these two antioxidants may find clinical application where cellular damage is a consequence of ROS.

“…In the future, Arg and nanoparticle preparations might be frequently used in practice, and previous experiments have shown a decrease in the toxic effects of nano ZnO using Arg (Faddah et al, 2012). In addition, dietary L-Arg has protective effects against oxidative stress and inflammation (Huang et al, 2008;Mostafavi-Pour et al, 2008).…”

“…Loke et al [55] conducted an eloquent in vitro study demonstrating that free quercetin provides greater protection from oxidative stress than its conjugated metabolites found in the plasma. While quercetin supplementation studies demonfoods, n3-polyunsaturated fatty acids (n3-PUFAs) such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) [59] and the nutrients vitamins C, E and folate [10,60]. In a recent experiment we found that 2-weeks ingestion of a mixed flavonoid-fish oil supplement significantly decreased acute exerciseinduced oxidative stress (20% decrease in plasma F 2 -isoprostanes) and inflammation (50% decrease in C-reactive protein (CRP), 39% decrease in IL-6) compared to quercetin alone or placebo [25].…”

“…In a study performed by Mostafavi-pour et al, no significant change was observed in SOD activity of the liver in hepatotoxic rats, after vitamin E and/or Quercetin administration. 38 However, in their study, there was no significant reduction in SOD levels of hepatotoxic rats compared to HCs. In our study, although there was a significant reduction in kidney SOD of diabetic rats compared to HCs, no statistical increase was observed upon administration of silymarin or milk thistle extract.…”
