Protective Effects of Acanthopanax senticosus HARMS from Hokkaido and Its Components on Gastric Ulcer in Restrained Cold Water Stressed Rats.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the pharmacological effect of the stem bark of Acanthopanax senticosus Harms from Hokkaido (Japanese name: Ezoukogi) in place of the root bark as a restorative tonic on the stress-induced gastric ulcer. In the test, the extract of the stem bark of A. senticosus prepared with hot water was dissolved in water and used for the assay of the protective effect of gastric ulcer (erosion) on stressed rats that were restrained on cold water. The result from a single oral administ… Show more

“…Acanthopanax senticosus contains an abundance of organic compounds. Chlorogenic acid (CHA) and syringaresinol di-O-␤-D-glucoside (SYG) are the main components of the Acanthopanax senticosus (70,71). SYG was suggested as the main compound exerting a pharmacologic effect on swimming time in rats (70).…”

“…The major active compounds are acanthoside D, eleutherosides I, K, L, M (triterpenic saponins), eleutherosides B, B 1 , D, E (phenylpropane derivates) (KITTS and HU, 2000), senticoside, β-sitosterol, sesamin (DAVYDOV and KRIKORIAN, 2000;LEE et al, 2004;LI et al, 2006). Today, the extracts from different parts of E. senticosus are studied for their biological and pharmacological effects include antioxidant, antidiabetes, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, imunoregulatory and immunomodulating, antimicrobial and antiviral activities (FUJIKAWA et al, 1996;HIBASAMI et al, 2000;YI et al, 2002;JUNG et al, 2003).…”

“…The major active components of Acanthopanax Koreanum stems (AK) are eleutherosides, chiisanosides, isofraxidin, acanthosides, daucosterine, β-sitosterol, sesamine, and savinine (Davydov and Krikorian, 2000). AK extracts (AKE) have been used as popular health supplements to treat stressinduced physiological changes (Fujikawa et al, 1996;Gaffney et al, 2001). as well as various allergic conditions, cancer, and inflammation (Yi et al, 2002;Lee et al, 2004;Yamazaki et al, 2007;Lin et al, 2008).…”
