Protective Effects of Fruit Wines against Hydrogen Peroxide—Induced Oxidative Stress in Rat Synaptosomes

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate, in vitro, the antioxidative potential of fruit wines produced from berry fruits (i.e., black chokeberry, blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry), cherry, and apple by different technological processes. For this purpose, the activities of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and superoxide dismutase (SOD)) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content as a marker of membrane damage were determined in wine-treated synaptosomes with hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stres… Show more

“…For particular anti-oxidation, TIPs can decrease the ROS level catalyzed by tyrosinase or activate an enzyme system, including super-oxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), to scavenge free radicals that stimulate tyrosinase [ 23 ]. This similar effect on oxidative stress reduction through antioxidative enzymes can also be found in phenolic compounds (phenolic acids and flavonoids) from fruit wines [ 58 ].…”

“…In general, the protective effect is dose-dependent, as Miguel et al [ 21 ] described. Unlike C.A.B., other vegetable drinks such as blueberry juice [ 44 ] and fruit wines [ 45 ] also promoted a protective effect against oxidative stress. The number of dead nauplii was higher at 48 h at all treatments.…”

“…Phenolics represent a group of phytochemicals found in almost all plants and are of potential value to human health. Phenolic acids and phenolics showed higher ability to activate enzymes of antioxidant protection in cells, which can prevent oxidative stress damage in cells [ 70 ]. Several phenolics belonging to flavonoids (listed in Table S1 ) and phenolic acids ( Table S2 ) were reported in BP and BB.…”
