Proto-Experiences and Subjective Experiences: Classical and Quantum Concepts

Abstract: Deterministic reductive monism and non-reductive substance dualism are two opposite views for consciousness, and both have serious problems. An alternative view is needed. For this, we hypothesize that strings or elementary particles (fermions and bosons) have two aspects: (i) elemental proto-experiences (PEs) as phenomenal aspect, and (ii) mass, charge, and spin as material aspect. Elemental PEs are hypothesized to be the properties of elementary particles and their interactions, which are composed of irreduc… Show more

“…When a subject moves, the specific SE redness also moves with the subject's correlated neural-net. These finding are consistent with the dualaspect-dual-mode optimal PE-SE framework (Vimal, 2008a;Vimal, 2008b;Vimal, 2009a;Vimal, 2009b;Vimal, 2009c;Vimal, 2009d;Vimal, 2009e;Vimal, 2010a;Vimal, 2010b). It is argued that since this optimal framework (that has the least number of problems) is valid at all three levels (classical, quantum, and subquantum physics), the introduction of consciousness in classical, quantum, and subquantum physics is also valid.…”

“…On the other hand, the model of Globus links structure and function but fails to link them explicitly with experience. Recently, to address the explanatory gap between structure/function and experience, Ram L. P. Vimal [92] [93] explicitly incorporated the concept of subjective experience in the thermofield logic of Vitiello and Globus. In his theory, the fundamental subjective experiences are simply potentialities or possibilities that must exist on their own as mental aspects in the context of particular experiments or observations.…”

“…For most researchers the attributes of color, such as hue, saturation, and brightness (Vimal et al, 1987), are subjective experiences, which are the mental aspect of color related neural-network (NN)-state; the physical aspect of this NN-state is the color related V4/V8/VO-NN and its activities (Vimal, 2009) in the dual-aspect monism framework (Vimal, 2008(Vimal, , 2010. Electromagnetic light waves (photons) visible to the human eye range from about 400 to 700 nm.…”
