Proton and carbon NMR spectra of alternating and statistical styrene-methyl methacrylate copolymers revisited

Abstract: The -methyl proton NMR resonances of the three different configurational methyl methacrylate centered triad sequences of alternating styrene-methyl methacrylate (SMMA) copolymers have been reassigned. Literature assignments are inconsistent with data and each other. “…The C1 carbon resonances in statistical S/MMA copolymers can be divided into three peaks, XЉ, YЉ and ZЉ which correspond to the 10 different configurational arrangements of the styrene-centered triads. The second region, the ␣OCH 3 main chain resonances, shows four peak areas designated as A, B, Tables III and IV of the original article. 40 For BA/MMA system the variation of the microstructure copolymers of various molecular weights was studied via 13 C NMR, devoted mainly to an analysis of the carbonyl patterns.
