Protoplasts of Laminaria digitata and Laminaria saccharina (Phaeophyta) — Cultivation and Biosynthesis of Alginate

Abstract: Protoplasts have been prepared from sporophytes of Laminaria digitala and Laminaria saccharina. Different culture media have been tested in order to achieve cell wall regeneration. The most appropriate culture medium for Laminaria digitata protoplasts was found to be an ionic medium with glucose as extra osmoticum. For Laminaria saccharina protoplasts, seawater supplied with glucose was more appropriate.
