Abstract:In this chapter, the authors examine two important network traffic issues: estimation of effective bandwidth and data loss probability in communication networks. They focus on estimation approaches based on network traffic modeling. Initially, they review some concepts related to network traffic modeling such as monofractal and multifractal properties. Further, they address the issue of estimating the effective bandwidth for network traffic flows. Besides effective bandwidth, the knowledge of the loss probabil… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
