Prvé hniezdenie dážďovníka skalného (Tachymarptis melba) na Slovensku

Abstract: The first breeding attempt of the Alpine Swift (Tachymarptis melba) in Slovakia is documented and range and population trend in Europe discussed. Four specimens of the species had appeared during the breeding season 2021 in Michalovce town, SE Slovakia, and a nest with the Alpine Swift eggs was documented on an unaccomplished panel building at a height of 22 m. The Alpine Swifts left the breeding site individually between September 27 and October 18. This breeding may be related to the increase of European pop… Show more

“…Generally higher breeding successes have been recently observed in Central Europe for other species in the same environment, especially at agrocenoses, such as the saker falcon (Falco cherrug) (Chavko 2019), the great bustard (Otis tarda) (Nagy 2018), the red-footed falcon (Falco vespertinus) (Slobodník et al 2021), and the European roller (Coracias garrulous) (Repel et al 2022). Measures to manage these species may have had a positive impact on their population (e.g., , Palatitz et al 2015.…”

“…Several recent nesting records are known from the southern and western periphery of the nesting area (UK (Carys 2021), Belgium (Nowald & Prange 2013, Kever et al 2018, Jeremy 2021), the Netherlands (Van Der Ven 2018), France (Salvi 2003(Salvi , 2010(Salvi , 2017, Czech Republic (Tichackova & Lumpe 2018), Slovakia (Repel et al 2009). This nesting area expansion reached Hungary as well (Kaufman & Hencz 2015, Kaufman et al 2017a, 2017b, Kaufman 2018, Haraszthy 2019, Végvári 2021a, Fellner 2022, Szekeres & Németh 2022.…”

“…In the 19 th century, hunting pressure and habitat loss led to the almost complete disappearance of nesting populations in central and southern Europe (eastern England, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Duna-Delta) (Johnsgard 1983, Snow & Perrins 1998, Prange 2005. Since the 1960s, following the strengthening of the main nesting area (Deinet et al 2013, Schepers 2020, new breeding data were recorded in several countries on the southern and western edges of the nesting periphery (Bobek et al 2003, Salvi 2003, 2017, Repel et al 2009, Prowse 2010, Kever et al 2018, Tichackova & Lumpe 2018, Van Der Ven 2018, Schepers 2020, Carys 2021, Jeremy 2021).…”
