PS/PANI/MoS2 Hybrid Polymer Composites with High Dielectric Behavior and Electrical Conductivity for EMI Shielding Effectiveness

Abstract: Liquid exfoliated molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets and polyaniline (PANI) nanoparticles are dispersed in polystyrene (PS) matrix to fabricate hybrid polymer composites with high dielectric and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding behavior. A phase-separated morphology is formed when PANI and MoS2 are incorporated into polystyrene (PS) matrix. An increasing concentration of MoS2 nanoparticles inside PS/PANI (5 wt %) polymer blend forms an interconnected network, resulting in high electrical conduc… Show more

“…The MoS 2 material is semiconductors (bandgap of ∼1.2 eV) with parabolic energy dispersion relation. The bandgap can be tuned by quantum confinement effect lead by different surface morphology; hence MoS 2 shows the candidacy for EMI shielding application 55,56 . As compared to 2D graphene, pure MoS 2 has lower electron conductivity and lower permittivity due to poor charge transfer.…”

“…Because the quantum restraint impact caused by distinct interfacial morphological features could optimize the band structure, therefore MoS 2 is an applicant for EMI sheltering functionalities. [388,389] Pure MoS 2 has reduced charge carrier permeability and transmittance than 2D graphene due to poor charge transport. Another issue with TMDs is that feeble van der Waals dynamics induce compaction of specific lateral strands of MoS 2 , that can result in impedance unmatching among the EM waves and the scattering content.…”

“…Hybrid polymer composites are used in various areas of applications due to their ease of processing, noncorrosiveness, light weight and flexibility. One such utilization is to employ them for the growing concern of EMI pollution especially in digital electronics & communication field [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. The choice of both matrix and fillers may be tailored according to their content and related interaction.…”
