Pseudaquidulcibacter saccharophilus gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel member of family Caulobacteraceae, isolated from a water purification facility with supplement of starch as a carbon source

Abstract: During a survey of microbial communities in the influent (ambient water) and effluent of a water purification facility with aeration and supplement of starch as carbon source, a novel bacterial strain, designated SZ9T, was isolated from the effluent sample. Colonies of strain SZ9T were small (approximately 0.5–1.0 mm in diameter), creamy-white, circular, smooth, translucent and convex. Cells were facultative anaerobic, motile by means of a single polar flagellum, rod-shaped, multiplied by binary fission, Gram-… Show more

“…Growth was monitored by measuring OD 600 . Antibiotic sensitivity was tested on R2A agar by the disc method [6]. Other physiological and biochemical features of XZ-24 T were determined using the API ZYM, API 20NE (bioMérieux) and GENIII (Biolog) identification systems according to the instructions of the manufacturers.…”

“…The family Caulobacteraceae in the order Caulobacterales of the class Alphaproteobacteria was proposed by Henrici and Johnson [1]. According to the List of Prokaryotic Names with Standing in Nomenclature (LSPN, https://lpsn.dsmz.de/family/caulobacteraceae), the family Caulobacteraceae currently consists of seven genera with validly published names: Aquidulcibacter [2] , Asticcacaulis [3] , Brevundimonas [4] , Caulobacter [1] , Phenylobacterium [5] , Pseudaquidulcibacter [6] and Terricaulis [7] with Caulobacter as the type genus. Members of the family have been isolated from samples from a variety of environments such as freshwater [8], seawater [9], activated sludge [10], blood [11], rhizosphere [12], soil [13] and cyanobacterial aggregate [2].…”
