The clinical and immunological Status of blood donors f hemophiliacs, and drug abusers is determined in a prospective study. Preliminary results indicate that Hepatitis B-markers and elevated IgG-concentrations are more frequent in severe hemophiliacs. Additionally, these patients demonstrate decreased reactions toward recall-antigens using a skin-test (Multitest®) f äs well äs an increased percentage of OKT 8 (suppressor) lymphocytes. In patients with mild hemophilia, the transaminases and IgG-concentrations are altered similar to severe hemophiliacs, however, Hepatitis B-markers, cell-mediated immunity (Multitest®) and lymphocyte subsets are comparable to blood donors. Predictivity and relevance of these Undings for the development of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) cannot yet be conclusively determined.
