Pseudomembranous colitis associated with ampicillin and erythromycin therapy

Abstract: Pseudomembranous colitis has been observed increasingly often after therapy with several antibiotics. This report describes the case of a patient in whom pseudomembranous colitis developed in association with ampicillin, an extremely rare complication of this drug, and erythromycin, a drug that has not been previously reported to cause the disease.
