“…According to the suggested evolutionary scenario, these species originated from population of P. latidens. P. hansi clade, originated from the same ancestral stock, led to the widely distributed Late Turolian P. abbreviatus, which, in its turn, splits during Ruscinian into two geographic lineages: a West Asian one represented by P. hansi and its possible descendant P. tchaltaensis and an East Asian one that led to P. complicidens [10]. “…deli gerbil with its "cricetid" structure of cusp/cuspid alternation on m1/M1 and the presence of two labial and one lingual sinusids on m2 clearly shows the characteristic features of Pseudomeriones. Historical overviews of the genus are given by [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…Pseudomeriones, a genus already present in Asia since the Vallesian and also in the Greek South Aegean Island Samos during the middle Turolian, seems to enter the area of northern Greece during the Messinian salinity crisis (Sylvestrou and Kostopoulos 2007). It appears with two species in the faunas correlated with the last part of the Turolian and with at least one in the transitional faunas.…”

“…Just above the levels with the mammal remains, there are sand beds that include more than 80 % volcanic clasts from the Almopia volcanic centre (northern Greece), the first activities of which have been radiometrically dated from 5.60±0.10 to 5.05±0.14 Ma (Vougioukalakis 2002;Sylvestrou and Kostopoulos 2007). The presence of a derived large-sized Pseudomeriones species in PLM-B suggests that the fauna was accumulated during the last part of the Turolian, more specifically during the Messinian Salinity Crisis.…”
