Pseudomonas Lipopeptide-Mediated Biocontrol: Chemotaxonomy and Biological Activity

Abstract: Pseudomonas lipopeptides (Ps-LPs) play crucial roles in bacterial physiology, host–microbe interactions and plant disease control. Beneficial LP producers have mainly been isolated from the rhizosphere, phyllosphere and from bulk soils. Despite their wide geographic distribution and host range, emerging evidence suggests that LP-producing pseudomonads and their corresponding molecules display tight specificity and follow a phylogenetic distribution. About a decade ago, biocontrol LPs were mainly reported from … Show more

“…Interestingly, surfactin in its canonical form is ubiquitously synthesized by all species belonging to the B. subtilis group that are widespread in soil. Other structurally-related CLiPs are produced by other rhizobacteria such as Pseudomonas 72,73 . This suggests that this type of cross-kingdom communication mediated by CLiPs may have a more global distribution belowground.…”

“…Secondary metabolites of Pseudomonas have been implicated in the biocontrol of several plant pathogens [ 215 , 216 ]. Pseudomonas strains are interesting for application because of the enormous diversity of metabolites produced and for their good adaption to multiple environments.…”

“…Pseudomonas spp. are one of the well-studied biocontrol bacteria, and they are even the main ingredients of some commercialized biopesticides. , From a taxonomic perspective, more than 300 types of strains of Pseudomonas species have been characterized to date . Importantly, Pseudomonas species can synthesize versatile secondary metabolites with broad spectra of bioactivities, among which antagonistic properties against phytopathogens and triggering of plant innate immunity are of utmost interest for biocontrol. ,, …”
