Pseudomonas putida and its close relatives: mixing and mastering the perfect tune for plants

Abstract: Plant growth–promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are a group of microorganisms of utmost interest in agricultural biotechnology for their stimulatory and protective effects on plants. Among the various PGPR species, some Pseudomonas putida strains combine outstanding traits such as phytohormone synthesis, nutrient solubilization, adaptation to different stress conditions, and excellent root colonization ability. In this review, we summarize the state of the art and the most relevant findings related to P. putida an… Show more

“…protegens , and P . putida ( Paulin et al, 2017 ; Nelkner et al, 2019 ; Höfte, 2021 ; Costa-Gutierrez et al, 2022 ). This diversity arose thanks to the numerous soil sample collection sites and the discriminating strain isolation process, based only on a Pseudomonas -selective medium and a binary inhibition criterion against the three lettuce bacterial pathogens.…”

“…Body of knowledge P. putida is found mostly in temperate soil and aquatic habitats. Strains of P. putida have plant growth promoting abilities (Costa-Gutierrez et al, 2022) and biofilm forming capacities (Espinosa-Urgel & Ramos-González, 2023). The metabolic versatility of P. putida makes this organism attractive for biotechnological applications and it has been developed as a useful microbial chassis for synthetic biology applications (Martin-Pascual et al, 2021).…”

“…Fluorescent pseudomonads exploit the efficient iron uptake and transport system, which, combined with their metabolic versatility, makes them active players in plant‐related environments (Cornelis, 2010; Gu et al, 2020; Kramer et al, 2020; Raaijmakers et al, 2009). Pseudomonads are readily isolated from the rhizosphere and possess properties beneficial for the host plants (Calderon et al, 2015; Costa‐Gutierrez et al, 2022; Krzyzanowska et al, 2012; Mazurier et al, 2009; Ramette et al, 2011; Zboralski et al, 2020).…”
