Pseudonocardia acidicola sp. nov., a novel actinomycete isolated from peat swamp forest soil

Abstract: A novel actinobacterium, designated strain K10HN5T, was isolated from a peat soil sample collected from Kantulee peat swamp forest, Surat Thani Province, Thailand and its taxonomic position was determined using a polyphasic approach. Strain K10HN5T contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, arabinose, galactose, glucose and ribose in its whole-cell hydrolysates. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8(H4). The major fatty acids were iso-C16 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C16 : 1H. Mycolic acids were not present. The polar lip… Show more

“…Peat swamp forests are unique tropical moist forest ecosystems in that their waterlogged conditions prevent the full decay of organic matter (leaves and wood), while the leaching of organic matter causes the peatland to become acidic [10]. Several new actinobacteria have been isolated from this habitat, including Amycolatopsis acidicola , Amycolatopsis acididurans , Kitasatospora humi , Pseudonocardia acidicola, Streptomyces acidicola and Streptomyces acididurans [11–16]. While investigating the diversity of actinobacteria in Thailand, Streptomyces strain RY43-2 T was isolated from the peat swamp forest in Rayong Province, Thailand.…”

“…Currently, the genus consists of 66 species with validly published and correct species names (https://lpsn.dsmz.de/genus/pseudonocardia) [3]. Novel species of the genus Pseudonocardia have been isolated from various habitats such as soils [4,5], sediment samples [6][7][8], termite nests [9], activated sludge [10] and plant roots [11][12][13]. Most of them were isolated from soils [3].…”
