Pseudothrombocytopenia

Abstract: SUMMARYIntroduction: Pseudo thrombocytopenia (PTP) is a phenomenon of falsely low platelet counts obtained on Hematology Analyzers (HA) due to in vitro platelet clumping in the presence of anticoagulants. Methods: Papers on the subject of pseudothrombocytopenias eff ects were searched for in biomedical journals indexed in MEDLINE from 1969 to 2016. All other thrombocytopenia types were not analyzed. Topic: Pseudothrombocytopenia occurs using the EDTA and other anticoagulants, in the process of determining the … Show more

“…The WBC can be changed due to the time from blood collection to performing CBC tests. Especially for platelets, the appearance of aggregates depends on the time between blood collection and CBC tests 20 . In this study, after the patient samples were collected, the professionals analyzed them immediately, which reduced the influence of time on the test results.…”

“…In adults circulate around 1012 platelets and their life span is 7-11 days. In order for body to sustain the platelet count daily, more than 1011 platelets is produced, and in the case of hemorrhaging that number signifi cantly increases [1,2,3].…”
