“…In the BCA − patients we used the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) or The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) (Beck et al, 2009) in combination with the Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) (Laux et al, 1981). When analyzing the current severity of depressive symptoms, cut off values for no/mild/moderate/severe depression were retrieved from the literature (moderate/severe depression was rated when BDI ≥ 20 points, HAMD ≥ 17 points, HADS (depression subscale) ≥ 11 points (Beck et al, 2009;Herrmann-Lingen et al, 2011;Maust et al, 2012). For anxiety symptoms only a yes/no rating was performed using cut-off values in accordance with the literature (anxiety was rated positive when HADS (anxiety subscale) ≥ 8 points, STAI (state subscale) ≥ 45 points, HAMD anxiety items ≥ 7 points (Farabaugh et al, 2010;Herrmann-Lingen et al, 2011;Spielberger et al, 1983in: Millar et al, 1995).…”

“…The clinical annotation of the corpus employs the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), comprising 21 items with each item scored between 0-3, to give a total score range of 0-63. The BDI is the most widely used self-reported measure, originally developed in 1978 and updated in 1996 [2]. BDI has been shown to have clinical validity when differentiating between depressed and non-depressed individuals and when tracking changes in a patient's level of depression as they undergo treatment.…”

“…BDI has been shown to have clinical validity when differentiating between depressed and non-depressed individuals and when tracking changes in a patient's level of depression as they undergo treatment. Its major criticism is that it reflects the BDI authors' interest in the negative self-evaluative symptoms experienced in depression [2]. Given the steady-state nature of depression, the extent of depression in AVDLC files is likely not the strongest source of variability in all the behavioural signals available in this corpus [8], [11].…”

“…They provide information that is more comprehensive than that generally obtained in a routine clinical interview. 2 While several rating scales are available to quantify the severity of depression and anxiety, there is a less satisfactory choice of instruments for mania are limited, more so in case of self-rating. 345 Although mania rating scales have improved over the years, the few available contain deficiencies that may limit their clinical and diagnostic utility.…”
