Psychodynamic Psychiatry in Community Settings

Abstract: Psychodynamics are surprisingly contemporary for community-based psychiatry. Clinical vignettes illustrate this point. Familiarity with literature concerning symbolic communication, transference, projective identification, and narcissism help provide perspective. Psychiatry in community settings can be stressful. Its practice is improved by supervised experience, grounded in psychodynamics.
