Psychological and Emotional Recovery to Severe Burn Injury

Abstract: Burn trauma is not only physically painful, but the experience of sustaining a severe burn, dealing with a lengthy hospital stay, and being faced with long-term consequences can be emotionally devastating. This paper describes common reactions to critical injury within the acute and post-acute rehabilitation phases, and reviews the psychologic adjustment of both pediatric and adult survivors.
