“…In this study, we realized the advantage of arts-based data collection to help us more deeply reflect on how children's sense of hope was depicted in their play, in nature, and in the colorful or child-friendly elements of design in the pediatric oncology unit. Findings of an integrative review study suggest that using drawing technique as an art therapy may also provide an opportunity for children living with cancer to better express emotions, adapt more effectively with cancer, and improve their feeling of well-being (Aguilar, 2017).This finding seems consistent with a wider literature reflecting the value of art therapy, such as was reported among adolescent patients in an intensive care burn facility (Appleton, 2001), and among adults with advanced cancer (Ando & Hayashida, 2017). Thus, it seems reasonable to conclude that arts and creativity can help children in a pediatric oncology unit become more hopeful and optimistic about their future.…”
