Psychometric properties of Clinical Learning Environment Inventory and its association with Moroccan nursing students’ satisfaction: A PLS-SEM approach

Abstract: Background: The Clinical Learning Environment (CLE) is integral to pre-registration nursing curricula. Assessing the student’s perceptions of their CLE is essential to adjust clinical placement to trainees’ needs. Clinical Learning Environment Inventory (CLEI) appears to be widely used in measuring CLE, but no previous study has reported a full structural validity and its association with students’ satisfaction in the Moroccan context. Objectives: This study investigated the psychometric properties of the CLEI… Show more

“…A total of 370 participants were selected over two phases to form the study sample. The sample size was estimated based on the ratio of cases to variables and the strength of the factor analysis results [ 15 ]. According to the recommended guidelines for the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) a ratio of participants (N) to variables (p) set at 5:1 is used, provided that the sample size exceeds 100 participants [ 16 – 18 ].…”

“…The fit indices, including the standardized root mean sSquared residual (SRMR) and the normed-fit index (NFI), were calculated to be 0.06 and 0.78, respectively. These values indicate a good fit, as SRMR values <0.10 or 0.08 and NFI values between 0 and 1 are generally considered acceptable [39].…”

“…Internal consistency was verified using Cronbach's alpha, composite reliability (CR), and rho_A factor. Diagonal elements needed to be significantly greater for adequate identification validity than the off-diagonal elements in their respective rows and columns [39].…”

“…So far, there have been few research types on the actual CLE. The primary focus has been on validating tools to assess the effectiveness of the CLE [ 19 , 20 ]. Thus, we have not got a clear picture of Morocco's CLE until now.…”
