Psychometric Properties of the Chinese Translation of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS)

Abstract: The present study examined the reliability and validity of a Chinese translation of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Three questionnaires, the MAAS, the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and the brief version of the World Health Organization's Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF), were completed by 263 Chinese undergraduates (207 males, 56 females). “…The Ch-MAAS obtained acceptable-to-satisfactory scores in Cronbach's alpha (0.85), the Guttman split-half test (0.81), and testretest reliability (0.54). It was also found to be negatively correlated with negative affect and positively associated with positive affect, as well as with quality of life (Deng et al, 2011). Similarly, the Ch-FFMQ received acceptable scores in Cronbach's alpha, the Guttmann split-half test, and test-retest reliability.…”

“…At least two Chinese versions of self-report mindfulness inventories have been developed recently. They are the Chinese version of the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (Ch-MAAS; Deng et al, 2011) and the Chinese version of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (Ch-FFMQ; Deng, Liu, Rodriguez, & Xia, 2012). Both of these were directly translated from the original English versions and underwent all standardised validation procedures.…”
